What is your background and when did your passion for Calligraphy and learning begin?
I’ve always been drawn to art, but it wasn’t until recently that I truly found my passion for textured wall art. After working in a completely different field for five years, I decided to take the leap and pursue art full-time when I turned 19. The moment I started experimenting with textures, something just clicked. I realised that working with materials like heavy body acrylics and texture pastes brought a whole new dimension to my work. I loved how these textures added depth and interest to my pieces.
Who / Where do you take your inspiration from?
I find a lot of my inspiration in nature. There’s something truly magical about the changing seasons, each bringing its own unique colours, textures, and energy. From the earthy tones of autumn leaves to the vibrant hues of summer sunrises and the cool blues of winter landscapes, I love translating these shifts into my art. My textured florals, in particular, are inspired by the organic shapes and layers found in nature. I’m also inspired by the online creative community and by other artists who aren’t afraid to push boundaries. Seeing other creatives share their journeys encourages me to keep exploring and evolving my own style.
What in your opinion is the hardest and the most rewarding parts of working in a creative industry?
In my opinion, the hardest part of working in the creative industry is keeping up with social media to promote my artwork. You can spend hours creating a piece, and then it feels like you have to spend just as much time filming and editing content to gain visibility. It’s also challenging to keep up with trends to ensure your artwork gets the attention it deserves. However, the most rewarding aspect for me is seeing my artwork hung up in someone’s home and working with amazing clients. Tailoring artwork and achieving the result they want is truly the best feeling ever. It’s incredibly fulfilling to know that my art brings joy and beauty to their space.
Do you have a favourite style?
At the moment, my favourite style is definitely textured florals, especially when created on glass frames. I enjoy capturing the organic shapes and layers found in nature through this medium. Working with glass allows me to create a unique style that feels both timeless and modern. I also enjoy making seasonal art, drawing inspiration from the natural colours around us to reflect the changing seasons in my pieces.
What are the most exciting projects you have worked on and what are you working on at the moment?
Some of my favourite projects have been custom pieces, where I’ve had the opportunity to create specifically for someone’s space or vision. Recently, I collaborated with a small business to design artwork for their office, using their brand colours to ensure the pieces complemented their environment perfectly. This client specifically requested the artwork to be on glass frames, allowing their wallpaper to show through, which made the design process even more exciting! Currently, I’m preparing for the Christmas season and upcoming markets with a collection of textured florals on glass baubles, alongside textured artwork in seasonal colours.
How does your work relate to your everyday life?
With art now being my full-time job, it has become a natural part of my everyday life. Even when going on a walk, I find inspiration in the changing seasons, which often sparks new ideas for my artwork. When I’m painting, time seems to disappear as I become completely absorbed in mixing colours and shaping textures. Creating art helps me relax and manage stress, making it a vital part of my daily routine.
What are your favourite tools to use?
My favourite tools are definitely palette knives. I use a variety of shapes—circular, triangular, and more—to create differently sized and shaped textured petals. I always say you can never have enough palette knives! Texture paste and acrylic paint have become staples in my studio and are always stocked up and ready for my next project.
What would your advice be to people new to the creative industry and any tips on how to get started?
My biggest advice is to not lose sight of what makes you happy as an artist. It’s easy to get caught up in what others are doing, but staying true to your own vision is what will make your work special. Don’t be afraid to start, even if you’re still figuring out your style. Experiment, share your work on social media, and remember that there’s no rush to find a “perfect” style. Make sure you have fun with it!
