We asked guest Artist Ladylen (@artsssylady) for her best tips on using and caring for the Glass Dip Pen

Glass Pens are special. They are beginner friendly writing tools. One of my favourite because they are elegant and versatile to use. They are also handmade. Amazing right? They are best for calligraphy practice, modern lettering, decorative drawing and also ink swatching. It works with many inks and you can easily switch colours instantly just by rinsing with water. A well-loved glass pen writes better, lasts longer and stays beautiful, inviting writers and artists to slow down and enjoy the process of writing itself.
You will need:
- Glass Dip Pen
- Ink
- Water
- Cloth
Tips
- Use smooth paper for best flow
- Write gently, Glass pens write with minimal pressure
- Don’t use very thick or pigmented ink, it can also cause skipping and build up.
- To avoid residue build up, rinse it thoroughly and dry with soft cloth.
- To change ink colors easily, rinse with water and wipe dry then dip into a new ink. (These keep lines crisp.)
- Depending on ink and pressure, A single dip can write several lines!
Your Step by Step Guide
- Check if the spiral grooves are clean and dry

2. Dip the pen until the grooves are filled with ink.

3. Slowly lift it and let the excess ink drip back into the bottle.

4. Now you're ready to enjoy its smooth writing, hold like a normal pen and keep a consistent angle.

5. After using, gently dip into the water and swirl slowly.

6. Pat the nib dry using a soft cloth, let it completely dry before storing.

7. Store properly by placing inside the protective case to prevent rolling and damaging.

I hope you enjoy many years of creating to come! - Ladylen (@artsssylady)
