Whether you're self-taught or guided, understanding your craft is key, and being open to constructive criticism will help you grow.

Start by building a strong foundation in your craft-practice regularly, experiment fearlessly, and learn from both traditional and modern techniques. Stay curious and open to feedback, as growth often comes from collaboration and critique.

You can discover what makes you happy while doing. This is a process, and everyone's process is unique to them. I recommend steady progress without rushing.

Apart from doing what I love most every day, the most rewarding part is when working with that ideal client that is absolutely in love with your work, values it and never question the price for it.

I think to learn calligraphy you need to have good observation skills. If you can observe every tiny detail of letter form than you can put that into practice.

Don’t wait to be taught. You ought to learn yourselves.

Sometimes we are our own worst enemies, as a perfectionist learning to love your own work is difficult and you will always find faults. However, sometimes it is those imperfections that humanise calligraphy and they are the parts we come to love. 

Start with an open mind and remember that is should be fun first. Go on Instagram or YouTube to find inspiration! Don’t be afraid to ask other questions.

Learning is something that never stops at any age. Just have the skill and will. Do not compare yourself and your work with others, as comparison kills. Just compare yourself with your yesterday. Every improvement is a milestone in its own.

Don’t give up! It may feel tedious doing all the drills and writing a whole page of one stroke. But all of this is the foundation work that will make you a master. Enjoy it, have fun, experiment and connect with other calligraphers. But most of all don’t give up.
